Better and busy

Update on a few things:

  • After struggling for a large part of last week to be a mom and work, the concussion fog finally lifted sometime Thursday.  I still had to take it easy or I would get sleepy, foggy, and a headache. I have to say that the worst part of the concussion recovery, was as I was less foggy and realized just how much stuff I “should” be doing, but it would exhaust me or make me feel worse. Today is a Monday, and I feel rested and ready to tackle the world! I’m sure it helps I have Friday off to go visit friends for the weekend with the littles.
  • February Pantry Bail Out
    • Today I need to make it to the grocery store as we are out of fruits, veggies and milk. I have only spent less than $15 on groceries, but darling Hubby came home with some food last week, but won’t give me the receipt. Most of it was snacks for his desk, so I’m going to just say $30 there. That means if I can only spend $100 and make it until mid next week, I will have met my Pantry Challenge.  After I felt better last week, I was able to slowly organize our chest freezer and found sooo much fish, and other food I didn’t realize we still had. Nat is going to be so sad about the fish as she does not like it at all!
  • I have a few WIP’s that I hope to finish up this week:
    • Island Play Set (#2)- I ran out of my “sea” color and now have to go buy some and pray the “no dye lot” is close to what I already had on hand. Other than this purchase, I had all of the yarn/stuffing on hand for both sets I made. I think I might make some separate animals/island parts that people can buy separately, but am not sure I want to make a full set again just yet.
    • I need to finish my Hat by weaving in the ends 🙂 I have to say this is a very easy hat to make, and I tend to fight making hats!  I will probably work on a few more in other colors down the road!
    • I also am working on a Campfire Blanket Scarf– it is coming along nicely and was the first project I could work on as I recovered.  Once I cast on, it is just knit, knit, knit and I don’t really need to count! I am hoping to have 3-4 of these ready for my family by summer and campfire season!
  • In finishing the above projects I will have 5/18 projects done from my 18 in 2018 challenge and have made progress by using mostly yarn I had on hand so the stash is starting to dwindle!
  • My 30 Day Shred challenge was sidelined by my concussion. I was doing so well, and normally would just not go back to finishing it up. Today I will try to do a Level 1 workout, and will stop if any of my concussion symptoms return, but I will finish this time!

I also want to put a big shout out to Nat who finished her second and final gymnastics meet of the season. Unfortunately she did not qualify for the State meet, but she came within one point! After a sever sprain this summer and Achilles Tendonitis at the beginning of the season left her sidelined for half the season, she made amazing improvements. I hope that learning the lessons of listening to her body, not returning too quickly, and also knowing when to push herself will serve her well as she continues to grow up!

Just a little sorry for all the ramblings! Have a great day!

Follow Up Friday

Its FREEZING here this morning- currently -14 and it feels colder because of the wind.  I think it’s a perfect day to hunker down and enjoy the indoors!

Update on a few of the Challenges I have made for myself:

18 in 2018 & Stash Blaster: (2 of 18)  I finished three each of : Chuck Chick, Buddy Bunny & Rufus Lamb – Lalylala and two Funny Bunny – Lilleliis are crochet, just need to be stuffed and stitch.  All 11 of these projects have been created using yarn on hand.  I’m not going to lie- it feels pretty darn good to finally use some of these projects and yarn!

February Challenges: I am still on track for Jillian’s 30 Day Shred- and feeling it. I made it without having to head to the grocery store, but need to look in the freezer and plan out meals based on what we have for the next week.  A few questions came up as to how I intend to only spend $150 on groceries. We have food on hand, I just never feel like we do, this challenge will make me use more of that and get creative with ingredients on hand. I’ve included a few pictures of my food on hand to show what I have to use up 😳. Really a first world problem!

Crochet, WIP Wednesday

WiP Wednesday- Funny Bunny

Today I am in progress with this quick and easy Funny Bunny pattern. I will probably take the next couple of days and make a couple other colors as well, then stuff and finish them all at once.

This week I also finished my third set of Lambs, Chicks, and Bunnies I posted about before. During nap time, I am hoping to do a photo shoot for them and get my listings polished up.

So far all of my projects, except for the scarf, have been projects for my 18 in 2018 and stash blasting projects! I’m feeling pretty good about them!

I included a picture of Heath since he HAS to have his head on or body near my yarn as often as possible. He even hides between my yarn carts where I store the yarn (I gave up and out a blanket there for him). Some projects I have decoy yarn for him.

Life, Running

Running, or not

I’m not sure what happened this week, I wrote a post on Wednesday and when I wen to post it, BAM! it was gone. I still am not sure where in cyber world it went. Yesterday was when I noticed it really wasn’t posted, looked for it, tried to re-write it to post yesterday- computer locked up three times and I just had to walk away. Today, I decided the topic at had must be different, the universe (or my computer) just didn’t think we should talk about crochet edge blankets this week… maybe another time.

Today I really want to talk about running. It’s been a bit since I’ve had a running post. I’ve made a few decisions this week as well. First- I won’t be running the St. Louis Half Marathon this year. My heart hasn’t been in full out half marathon training, and I just don’t wan to pay for a race I’m not trained for. I also decided not to go, because I am taking an exceptional amount of days (not really, but more than I usually do) off this half of the school year, and feel bad putting my daycare families into a spot where they need to find coverage or take the day off.

I am still all in excited about Ragnar Chicago! I haven’t been running as far as I would like, but I have been running 2-3 miles 3-4 times a week. On Sunday I headed out for what I intended to be a 4 mile run, but I guess I am faster than I used to be, my run ended up being just over 5 miles. I use an app call Aaptive that has workouts with music and the trainers tell you what to do. These workouts are nice when I want to do some speed work, because the trainer tells me when to go fast and when to recover. I used their Half Marathon plan for my last half marathon and was happy with my 2:09 for my first ever half!

We had a big snowstorm on Monday, my workout was shoveling for the next two days, then I was able to head out and run outside again!  My runs since Sunday have been back in the 2 mile range as my SIL and her husband both tested positive for Influenza and I watch their daughter who ended up feverish and lethargic Saturday-Tuesday. I really really really don’t want to get influenza. I have been taking vitamin C, lots and lots of fluids, go to bed early so I don’t get wore out, and keeping my runs low key and a little shorter. So far so good!

What are your favorite ways to stay healthy? Any other great running apps out there? How do you stay motivated?
