Thursday Thoughts

Adulting is hard! – Wanting all the things and making responsible decisions is tough! Paying off my student loans was great! The hot tub crapping out was not. We really want a new hot tub, but made the decision we don’t want to take out a loan to get a new one. We know our washer, dryer, stove, microwave… are all getting up there and many of them have been repaired by us already.

Hot tubs are amazing- I didn’t realize how much I would miss our hot tub, but once it drained itself this winter (not the first winter it has done this), I realized how nice a soak could be!

Go St Louis Half Marathon is a little over a week away. Hubby and I are taking the kiddos out of school for a couple days and making it a run-cation! AND I get to see one of my college roommates and her family since they are kind enough to host us. I am bummed that the river is flooding and they had to re-rout the race. Now we don’t get to pass directly under The Arch in the last mile. I didn’t realize this was important to me, but I’m thoroughly bummed.

My left ankle is still giving me grief. It is a bit better after I used KT Tape. As long as I keep stretching and icing it is ok. I should probably be wearing shoes all the time, but I just can’t get myself there.

Spring– it is warmer, the snow is melting, everything is a sandy, muddy mess! LOVE what it means is coming! There was THE BRIGHTEST cardinal in one of our apple trees this morning. I do like the idea of it being a loved one checking in and being close. Even without this thought, I think they are beautiful!

Nap Time– being a daycare mama, I am struggling with kiddos who just aren’t napping. A couple are phasing out of naps, and a couple need them, but refuse- LOUDLY.

What are your thoughts today? Any fun runs coming up? What is your favorite way to relax?

Weekend Recap

Overall it was a really good weekend here! I hope everyone had a good weekend as well!

Friday was spent as home with just Little N. Big N and A were babysitting and had a sleepover at Aunties house after. They got spoiled and Little N got a Mommy Daddy Date where we went out to eat then played in the hot tub for a little bit.

Still able to smile after 14 miles!

Saturday was a Long Run day. 14 miles and Hubby felt great after his run, I felt like I might fall apart. My warm up was an hour with the snow blower. I accomplished 10 miles on the treadmill, an amazing feat considering 2 months ago I couldn’t bring myself to run 2 miles on one! At 10 miles I was bored and my left hip was starting to holler so I switched to the track to finish my last 4. My hip was ok while I walked, but screamed during my cool down. I finished the day with stretches and kept my legs moving with grocery shopping.

Sunday I took the kiddos for haircuts and pants shopping. The rest of the day was spent crafting. Part of my March focus is to focus on just doing one thing at a time, so I spent some lovely time with my sewing machines and made up some adorable T-Rex and football taggies to bring with to my next craft show. It was nasty cold outside, so inside time was amazing! Next step is to keep finishing projects I have started and start listing them on Etsy!

What did you do this weekend? What fun projects are you working on? What not so fun projects?

Random Thoughts

I am sooooo very over winter. We didn’t even have snow until the very end of January, and now it just won’t stop. I can barely see cars parked in front of my house because the snowbanks are so high.

Projects, Projects, Projects! I have soo many in progress projects, and will likely be starting another. Hopefully, this weekend, I can get my Poly-Fil and start wrapping them up.

Run Streaks are for me. I know they aren’t for everyone, but I am a better trainer and feel so much stronger when I stick to a run streak. After walking away from my last one, I skipped a few training runs, and felt guilty. Back at it, yesterday was day 3!

Training- I am very excited to travel to St. Louis with the family for our Half Marathon Runcation/visiting friends! This is lots of motivation for sticking with the run streak and hopefully getting a PR!

Ragnar- I love these relay races and am signed up for two this year. Ragnar Road Minnesota in August and Ragnar Trail Wisconsin in September. Yesterday I was driving my teams crazy as I planned a few things for these races. If only they were less expensive, I could run more of them!

What is on your mind this week?

Fit Friday

Another week of amazing runs…and crazy weather. I managed to keep my run streak going… until yesterday.

Weekend– A short run to keep the streak on Saturday, then a day at the Ice Castles with the kids and friends. Sunday Runday 11 mile run- including a PR 5 miles on the treadmill before accidentally hitting the emergency off button!
Monday– the kids were home because of icy roads. I ran inside at the YMCA
Tuesday– a huge snowstorm arrived. At 6 am the weather said 2-4 inches of snow, we ended up with 12! The neighbors were kind enough to let me use their treadmill, where I ran my fastest 2 consecutive miles ever! DAY 40 of Run Streak
Wednesday– The kids had late start to help clear up the roads from the day before. I ran outside while the Middlest was at piano. Oh how I love a good, crisp, outside run!
Thursday– Kids had no school… again… as their had been freezing rain/mix overnight and we were predicted to get another 8 inches of snow… I think we got 6. I was up plenty early and didn’t go to the Y, worked a 9 hour day, and went out to eat with my family. It was amazing, and at the time, I was content with ending my run streak as I spent an hour shoveling while Hubby ran the snow blower. When I crawled into bed, I simmered in guilt and being upset with myself.
Friday– This morning, I got up and ran my run at the Y, and am set for a 12 mile run this weekend and lots of time with extended family!

I really do feel stronger for having done a run streak, and think I’m going to dust myself off and see if I can beat my 41 day streak!

What running accomplishments did you tackle this week? Have you done a run streak before? What was your experience?

Cheer them on

It’s been quite some time since my last post. Much happened since then, most has been unimportant and everyday, but fills up the time nonetheless.

One factor to the long break was a rant from the hubby as to how “EVERYONE HAS A BLOG THESE DAYS” and it somehow makes them an expert.  I have to admit right here, that I haven’t told him about this little page, and it has forced me to sit and figure out my why. REALLY figure it out! I write to help figure things out, and to let my customers and followers have a better idea of who I am, and maybe, what makes me tick.

Someday, I would love to have so many orders, things that people think of, then think of me, and say- “Hey, could you make this for me?” and I’d jump in and save the day and figure it out! All of these orders have to come from people trusting my work, and me enjoying what I am making. These are reasons why there is a smattering of different items in my Etsy Shop and why i sometimes feel like I am jumping around from thing to thing.  Just sewing stuffed animals, or knitting scarves, or crocheting afghans, and only doing one thing, would squish my creativity in a quick hurry.

Currently, many of my orders and products available, come because friends or friends of friend, mention something they would like, or share a pattern with me. These ideas spur me like nothing else. Projects like that include First Communion dresses from mom’s wedding dress (it is scary to cut apart another woman’s wedding dress!!!), weighted blankets (next in line), washcloths, Swiffer covers, stuffed giraffe, shawls, giant donuts…

My why is also that I’m not just a #mommymaker, I’m a runner, I love to cook, I also love to read, and camp, and chat with my friends. I keep lots of little people alive day in and day out, getting to play (and clean up poop), while moms and dads have to go to work. Many of my creations are for, tested or inspired by these little people. They help me pick out colors, and yarns. The older ones are asking to learn how to make things like me-It melts my heart every time.

Am I an expert? No! If I keep working, maybe someday I will be!
Do I expect to end up on the Today Show, teaching people how to make it big? No! If this ever happens, will have exceeded my wildest dreams, but I hope to embrace it and everything that brought me to that point.
Do I hope to inspire others to do what makes their hearts soar? YES! If you like to run, do it! If you like to create, do it! If you prefer to buy things other people make, do it! If you love to cook or bake, do it! Just remember, we are all different, and we can all offer support to those around us!

As I look at this, long and rambling, post and see I wrote “I am a runner” I am amazed! Two years ago, I was sitting on the couch, gaining inches, hating my body and needing a change. October 29, 2016 I started a Couch To program and haven’t turned back. Since that day, I ran my first half marathon, full marathon, marathon relay, Ragnar relay. This year, I still have a 5k and a road and a trail Ragnar scheduled. When I ask people to join me, they tell me they can’t. I let them know that they can, but I will never force them. I let them know that I will run with them, at any pace, and I will be there to listen to them. A friend was there for me as I progressed-Cheered me off the couch and onto the road. If you don’t want to run, or lift weights, or crochet a bear- be the person to cheer on your friend who does, but might be afraid to, or is struggling to remain motivated.

Wonderous Weekend

It is hard to believe it was snowing and miserable a week ago! We spent the weekend outside, with almost no snow left! The Sprinting Turtles came over for a fire and a meeting. We were going to make signs to use at Ragnar, but it was soo nice out, we didn’t get to that! Some of the team brought their kids and everyone was able to run and wear themselves out.

I was worried about my run as my IT Band has been complaining as of late. I have 2 weeks until the EC Marathon Relay and 4 until Ragnar- I can’t get hurt or sick! I just can’t! I headed out in the sunshine for my run yesterday and figured I’d hit my short 2 mile route, if I had to walk home, so be it. At .4 miles I was hurting and defeated. I stopped and stretched my calf and hamstrings, and tried again. It felt much better so I kept going. I had to stop and stretch one other time, but managed 6 miles.  I need to run almost 9 for Ragnar, and have run 7.5 so far this training season. I should be good to go.

I did take a little relaxation time and cast on for a fantastic Wonder Woman Wrap. A really is into super heros and was beyond excited to see the pattern. Little does she know, this will probably be her birthday present. I will make it in front of her, and then tell her it was for someone else. So mean, but she already put it on her birthday list, and there is little time I could work on it without her knowing.

Have a great week!

Turtle training

To start out- nothing like logging on to post today’s blog post, feeling good I’ve been consistent the last half of the week, and finding out I somehow didn’t actually post the other days. Oye! Out they went.

I’m (getting) beyond excited about Ragnar Chicago! We are 5 weeks from our start. Our team signed up as the Sprinting Turtles (thanks to a random name generator) way back in December. What wouldn’t be fun about 12 people, 2 vans, 200 miles of relay?! I am team captain, and am hoping to make this fantastic for the team

A few weeks ago, a teammate had to back out for medical reasons. Yesterday, her replacement backed out. Each runner runs 3 legs of the relay. I am now looking for a runner to run 3.4 miles, 3.6 miles, then 4 miles- with 5 weeks of training. Fingers crossed for us!

On my own training- my shins are finally feeling better. I was accidentally running in my wore out running shoes as I switched to outside training, and wearing heeled shoes instead of flats. Ice, less miles, and compression socks worked like a charm.

Hubby is also on the team, and really picking up his game. That was hard when I was purposefully running less to heal my shins, but nice to stay motivated otherwise!

The weather this weekend is supposed to be horrible. I just saw we are in the 10-18″ of snow band. It’s the middle of April! Please make it stop! Of course we no longer have our gym membership, so I’m hoping the snow is less and the plows are able to get out so I can get some miles in this weekend!

What are your training woes? Have you run Ragnar before? Any tips?
