WIP Wednesday- Island Sets and Blanket Scarf

This week is turning around and I’m finally feeling a bit productive.  I completed another Island Sea Set yesterday and have my animals set for the next one.

Yesterday afternoon I was able to get started on the next Island set- I wonder if this one will sell before I get to finish it like the last two did!  Once I finish my next set, I am ready to take pictures and finally list a new product in the Shop! Just to switch things up a bit, I might increase my hook size and switch to a different shade of blue (this would also help me with my stash!). So Far, I only had to purchase yarn to finish the sea in the second sea set!

My Campfire Blanket Scarf has not made much progress. I’m thinking that might be a road trip project when we head for Florida over spring break.

What projects are you working on? How about he ones you are struggling to stay motivated with?

Better and busy

Update on a few things:

  • After struggling for a large part of last week to be a mom and work, the concussion fog finally lifted sometime Thursday.  I still had to take it easy or I would get sleepy, foggy, and a headache. I have to say that the worst part of the concussion recovery, was as I was less foggy and realized just how much stuff I “should” be doing, but it would exhaust me or make me feel worse. Today is a Monday, and I feel rested and ready to tackle the world! I’m sure it helps I have Friday off to go visit friends for the weekend with the littles.
  • February Pantry Bail Out
    • Today I need to make it to the grocery store as we are out of fruits, veggies and milk. I have only spent less than $15 on groceries, but darling Hubby came home with some food last week, but won’t give me the receipt. Most of it was snacks for his desk, so I’m going to just say $30 there. That means if I can only spend $100 and make it until mid next week, I will have met my Pantry Challenge.  After I felt better last week, I was able to slowly organize our chest freezer and found sooo much fish, and other food I didn’t realize we still had. Nat is going to be so sad about the fish as she does not like it at all!
  • I have a few WIP’s that I hope to finish up this week:
    • Island Play Set (#2)- I ran out of my “sea” color and now have to go buy some and pray the “no dye lot” is close to what I already had on hand. Other than this purchase, I had all of the yarn/stuffing on hand for both sets I made. I think I might make some separate animals/island parts that people can buy separately, but am not sure I want to make a full set again just yet.
    • I need to finish my Hat by weaving in the ends 🙂 I have to say this is a very easy hat to make, and I tend to fight making hats!  I will probably work on a few more in other colors down the road!
    • I also am working on a Campfire Blanket Scarf– it is coming along nicely and was the first project I could work on as I recovered.  Once I cast on, it is just knit, knit, knit and I don’t really need to count! I am hoping to have 3-4 of these ready for my family by summer and campfire season!
  • In finishing the above projects I will have 5/18 projects done from my 18 in 2018 challenge and have made progress by using mostly yarn I had on hand so the stash is starting to dwindle!
  • My 30 Day Shred challenge was sidelined by my concussion. I was doing so well, and normally would just not go back to finishing it up. Today I will try to do a Level 1 workout, and will stop if any of my concussion symptoms return, but I will finish this time!

I also want to put a big shout out to Nat who finished her second and final gymnastics meet of the season. Unfortunately she did not qualify for the State meet, but she came within one point! After a sever sprain this summer and Achilles Tendonitis at the beginning of the season left her sidelined for half the season, she made amazing improvements. I hope that learning the lessons of listening to her body, not returning too quickly, and also knowing when to push herself will serve her well as she continues to grow up!

Just a little sorry for all the ramblings! Have a great day!

WIP x2

Monday was one of those days.  I was doing pretty good, rolling along with my Monday. I went to work on the Nice and Knit Beanie and my circular needle broke in mid round. I calmly set aside this project, vowing to avoid yarn purchases when I purchase a new one. I was a little irritated as I struggle with most of my hats. It doesn’t help that because I have issues with them, I only make them to order, so they HAVE to be a certain size.  I tend to have better luck when knitting, so that’s what I want with on this project.

Next I started working on the Crochet Island Play Set– trying so very, very hard to use up my stash, I prayed my two blues would be close enough. Having lost their labels ages ago, I had no way to tell. Honestly, they are so very close! Just not close enough, or so I thought, after doing a round I asked a few people to help me find the join, and no one could. I have finished the base, but now need to work on the island and creatures for this set.

I couldn’t help myself when I picked up my new circular needle… I bought yarn for ONE Campfire Blanket Scarf. I would eventually like to make 4-5 of these for when we have fires at our house, head to someone else’s fire, or are camping. Most of the time my kids are asking if they can have whatever I am making (for someone else or for the etsy shop) and I have to tell them no- I’m looking forward to making something specifically for them, just because.

What projects are you working on?  What are your current favorite colors/yarns?

18 in 2018

I was sitting at home, enjoying a snowday where my kids were all playing nicely, rewarding myself with some blog surfing for checking off some pesky items from my TO DO list. In the back of my mind, I was trying to decide what to do with my yarn stash, trying to decide what to do with my projects I have printed, but have yet to do. Along came NothingButKnit. Karen was talking about how she came across another blog that was going to Knit the Year.  I thought this was amazing! Karen is also committing to using a certain number of skeins of yarn this year that she had when the year changed.  I think this is AMAZING!

I plan to complete 18 projects I have printed or saved (no new projects will count toward this goal… but I’m sure they will happen as well!). I am currently not certain exactly which projects I plan on using, I will knit, crochet, or sew 18 projects I have never done and already own or have pinned.

Here are the first 10 I have high hopes of using (they are already printed and allowed me to stay out of the Pinterest Rabbit Hole):

I am hoping to use as much of my stash for primary yarn as possible on these projects! Some of these projects will use up significant time and yarn 🙂

I’ll keep you up to date on how the stash is dwindling and how the 18 in 2018 is going!

Off to enjoy the cozy snowday with my kids!

So Many Choices, So Little Time

As a busy mom all the time, and crazy daycare lady during the week, time to work on my growing list of projects is limited. One way around this is to teach older kids how to crochet, allowing me to feel less guilty if I pick up my own yarn project!

This year, I am hoping to cull through my growing list of possible projects. I have a binder full of items I have made in the past, or purchased and printed with the intent of completing in the future. Sometimes it is just overwhelming to look at and decide, yet I am unable to get rid of any of them, for fear I may want them in the future.

To give myself guidance, I am hoping to look through and make items that would be fit for the shop in 3 months or so. If I like the project, there may even be color options. If I don’t like the pattern, or process, then out the door with that pattern.  I will even re-try hats… these have been a nemesis of mine for years, and I avoid them at all cost.  Although when my customers request a hat, I will make 12 of them to finally get the sizing correct.

I also plan to use up some of my growing yarn stash- I say this every year… but somehow, the stash does not decrease. It does not help that many/most of my labels have been removed by helpful hands and color/yarn matching is out of the question. I’m thinking that over spring break, there may be a stash blaster scrapgan to occupy my time as passenger to sunny Florida and back to chilly Wisconsin. Who am I kidding? … I’ll have fallen in love with some fantastic yarn, or adorable pattern, and my stash will grow some more :).

I’d love to hear from you- What are your favorite yarns? patterns? ways to organize it all?

Finish It Friday, Knitting

Finished It Friday

It’s Friday! The first Friday of the new year, and I have a finished project (from last year)!

My mother has been patiently (or maybe not so patiently waiting- I’m not sure)waiting for me to finish this poncho.  I have one just like it that she liked so much she asked for her own. It is super versatile and cozy to wear! Nothing like looking nice and feeling like you are wrapped up in your favorite blanket at the same time!

Pardon my Photography skills… they are in progress!

This poncho is from a pattern I purchased from Melissa Schaschwary years ago on Ravelry.  I was beyond happy to use it again to make this (very late) Christmas Gift for my mom.

Now that this project is complete, I need to finish up my other WIP, a beautiful Mother of the Groom Dress for a beach wedding. This one is soo close to being done, and needs to be done by Sunday!

What projects are you working on or just finished with?
